2026 Run for a Reason – FAQ
What is the Run for a Reason program?
Run for a Reason is the official charity partner program of the Chevron Houston Marathon. Pick Family Houston as your charity to run, fundraise, or donate—all while supporting essential programs in mental health counseling, financial stability coaching, and basic needs assistance.
What are my participation options?
1. Fundraise for Registration (FFR)
Commitment:
$1,000 minimum to run the full or half marathon
$500 minimum for the 5K
Deadlines:
By Nov 1, 2025: Raise at least $175 for your application to be accepted
By Dec 29, 2025: Raise the full fundraising minimum
Important:
Your credit card is held at registration but won’t be charged unless you don’t meet fundraising requirements or add merchandise/add-ons.
If the full fundraising goal isn’t reached by Dec 29, your bib will be held at packet pickup until you show proof of fundraising or pay the balance.
2. HERO (Donate & Run)
Straight-up donation + entry fee, no fundraising required:
$490 – Full Marathon
$475 – Half Marathon
(Tax-deductible donation of $350 goes directly to Family Houston)
Pay upfront and you’re set—just show up and run!
How do I register?
Visit here and click “Participate with Charity”. Choose either the Fundraise for Registration (FFR) or HERO option to get started.
What happens after I register?
You’ll receive a confirmation email, and we’ll follow up with fundraising tips, resources, and optional team invites. You’ll also be added to our runner email list so you don’t miss any updates.
Can I still get involved if I don’t want to run?
Yes! Not planning to run but still want to make an impact? You can sign up as a fundraiser only—no race registration required. It’s a great way to support Family Houston and rally your network around a cause that matters.
Are there any perks if I run with Family Houston?
When you run with us, you’ll enjoy:
Covered race entry fee (when fundraising minimums are met)
Private restrooms, hot breakfast, and official swag
Recognition opportunities for top fundraisers
Who can participate?
Anyone can represent Family Houston through either option—whether you’re fundraising or donating. Invite friends, family, coworkers, even corporate groups to build your team or make a direct impact! All walkers, joggers or runners are welcome.
