Houston, TX – January 30, 2026 — Family Houston has launched a Hurricane Beryl Long-Term Recovery Project with funding from the American Red Cross to expand trauma-informed mental health and recovery services for individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Beryl.

The initiative is designed to address both the emotional and material needs of residents in neighborhoods hardest hit by the storm. Through this project, Family Houston will provide:

  • 300 no-cost mental health counseling sessions delivered by licensed clinicians

  • Six psychoeducation workshops focused on coping strategies, stress management, and trauma recovery

  • Basic Needs Pantry Pop-Up Shops to help households access essential supplies during recovery

Services will be delivered through trusted community hubs in affected areas, ensuring support is accessible, culturally responsive, and grounded in trauma-informed care.

“Hurricane recovery doesn’t end when the storm passes,” said Ken Sheirr, President & CEO of Family Houston. “Many individuals and families continue to experience stress, loss, and uncertainty long after the immediate damage. This project allows us to meet people where they are — emotionally and practically — while supporting long-term healing and stability.”

The program emphasizes resilience-building, community connection, and sustained recovery by integrating mental health services with basic needs assistance. By pairing counseling and education with tangible resources, Family Houston aims to reduce barriers to care and support households as they rebuild.

This project is part of Family Houston’s ongoing commitment to strengthening communities through accessible mental health counseling, financial stability support, and essential services for individuals and families facing crisis.
